Two applicants for MSc (Master of Science) Mathematics can both say they are preparing for CUET PG (Common University Entrance Test, Postgraduate) and be studying different papers. Appendix II of the National Testing Agency's (NTA) 2026 information bulletin lists 157 question paper codes, and each code has its own syllabus.
The MSc paper is SCQP19. B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education) Mathematics is a separate code, COQP07, and neighbouring subjects such as Statistics, Economics and computer science have codes of their own. The bulletin makes the applicant responsible for choosing the right one. A wrong choice means preparing for the wrong paper.
This page shows how to find your code, gives the official SCQP19 syllabus with a timed test for every unit, and works out how to spend the paper's time. Because the 2027 bulletin is still to come, it also tells you what to check before relying on any figure. You will know where you stand before the first mock test.
What is the CUET PG syllabus, and why is there no single one?
The CUET PG syllabus is a set of separate syllabuses, one per question paper code, each published by NTA on the CUET PG website. A candidate may choose up to four codes. As of 3 October 2026, the 2026 pattern is 75 questions in 90 minutes, with 4 marks for a correct answer and 1 mark deducted for a wrong one (bulletin, sections 2.4 and 2.5).
As of 3 October 2026, the CUET PG 2027 information bulletin has not been published. NTA released its 2026-27 examination calendar on 16 September 2026, which lists CUET PG for March 2027 and describes the dates as tentative (NTA notice board). The bulletin is expected in December 2026. This page uses the 2026 bulletin (December 2025) and the SCQP19 syllabus uploaded in December 2025. Check exams.nta.nic.in/cuet-pg for any newer file before you rely on a figure here.
We counted the codes in Appendix II of the 2026 bulletin by reading every row of its tables. They fall into six groups:
| Group in the bulletin | Codes |
|---|---|
| Languages | 41 |
| Science | 30 |
| Humanities | 26 |
| Acharya (papers set in Sanskrit, with some exceptions) | 26 |
| Common | 22 |
| M. Tech. (Master of Technology) / Higher Sciences | 12 |
| Total | 157 |
Which question paper code do you need for MSc Mathematics?
You need the code your target university names for the course in its own eligibility details. For Mathematics and Applied Mathematics that is SCQP19, which the bulletin titles "Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Electronics". Neighbouring subjects sit under other codes in Appendix II:
| Code | Programme as titled in the bulletin |
|---|---|
| SCQP19 | Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Electronics |
| COQP07 | B.Ed. Mathematics |
| SCQP27 | Statistics |
| SCQP09 | Computer Science / Information Technology / Artificial Intelligence |
| COQP10 | Economics |
| MTQP04 | Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Computer Science, Engineering/Technology |
The bulletin warns that "similar courses are being evaluated under various question paper codes by different universities" and that applicants "are solely responsible for choosing the correct question paper code as per the universities where admission is sought."
Four steps settle it:
- List every course you would accept, at every university.
- Open each university's eligibility details and write down the code it names.
- Download the syllabus for each code from NTA's CUET PG site.
- Count the distinct codes. If you have more than four, drop the courses you would accept least.
In our view, two universities that name different codes for similar-sounding courses are the case to check twice. Ask the admissions office before you pay.
What does the official SCQP19 mathematics syllabus contain, unit by unit?
The official SCQP19 syllabus, uploaded in December 2025, has seven units. Its notes say the paper has 75 questions, all based on subject-specific knowledge, all compulsory and bilingual in English and Hindi.
Below, each unit gives NTA's wording as written, then a timed test with answers. Cover the answers while you work. You pass a unit when your answers match and you finish inside the time. Score each unit 0 to 3: 0 means you cannot start, 1 means you can follow a worked solution, 2 means you solve it with notes, and 3 means you pass without notes. The maximum is 21 (7 units at 3 points each). Any unit at 0 or 1 goes first.

Can you pass the Algebra unit?
NTA's wording: "Groups, subgroups, Abelian groups, non-abelian groups, cyclic groups, permutation groups; Normal subgroups, Lagrange's Theorem for finite groups, group homomorphism and quotient groups, Rings, Subrings, Ideal, Prime ideal; Maximal ideals; Fields, quotient field. Vector spaces, Linear dependence and Independence of vectors, basis, dimension, linear transformations, matrix representation with respect to an ordered basis, Range space and null space, rank-nullity theorem; Rank and inverse of a matrix, determinant, solutions of systems of linear equations, consistency conditions. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Cayley-Hamilton theorem. Symmetric, Skew symmetric, Hermitian, Skew-Hermitian, Orthogonal and Unitary matrices."
Test, 3 minutes: (1) How many elements of order 5 are in a cyclic group of order 25? (2) For A = [[2, 1], [0, 3]], find A² − 5A. Answers: (1) 4. (2) −6I, because the characteristic polynomial is λ² − 5λ + 6.
Can you pass the Real Analysis unit?
NTA's wording: "Sequences and series of real numbers. Convergent and divergent sequences, bounded and monotone sequences, Convergence criteria for sequences of real numbers, Cauchy sequences, absolute and conditional convergence; Tests of convergence for series of positive terms-comparison test, ratio test, root test, Leibnitz test for convergence of alternating series. Functions of one variable: limit, continuity, differentiation, Rolle's Theorem, Cauchy's Taylor's theorem. Interior points, limit points, open sets, closed sets, bounded sets, connected sets, compact sets; completeness of R, Power series (of real variable) including Taylor's and Maclaurin's, domain of convergence, term-wise differentiation and integration of power series. Functions of two real variable: limit, continuity, partial derivatives, differentiability, maxima and minima. Method of Lagrange multipliers, Homogeneous functions including Euler's theorem."
Test, 72 seconds each (the paper's average per question, worked out below): (1) Does Σ n!/nⁿ converge? (2) Does Σ (−1)ⁿ/√n converge, and is the convergence absolute? Answers: (1) Yes, by the ratio test, since the ratio tends to 1/e. (2) It converges by the Leibnitz test, but not absolutely.
Can you pass the Complex Analysis unit?
NTA's wording: "Functions of a complex Variable, Differentiability and analyticity, Cauchy Riemann Equations, Power series as an analytic function, properties of line integrals, Goursat Theorem, Cauchy theorem, consequence of simply connectivity, index of a closed curves. Cauchy's integral formula, Morera's theorem, Liouville's theorem, Fundamental theorem of Algebra, Harmonic functions."
Test, 4 minutes: (1) Is u = x² − y² harmonic? Find its harmonic conjugate. (2) Evaluate ∮ eᶻ/(z − 1) dz over the circle |z| = 2. Answers: (1) Yes, v = 2xy + c. (2) 2πi·e, because z = 1 lies inside the circle.
Can you pass the Integral Calculus unit?
NTA's wording: "Integration as the inverse process of differentiation, definite integrals and their properties, Fundamental theorem of integral calculus. Double and triple integrals, change of order of integration. Calculating surface areas and volumes using double integrals and applications. Calculating volumes using triple integrals and applications."
Test, 2 minutes: evaluate ∫₀¹ ∫ₓ¹ e^(y²) dy dx by reversing the order. Answer: (e − 1)/2.
Can you pass the Differential Equations unit?
NTA's wording: "Ordinary differential equations of the first order of the form y'=f(x,y). Bernoulli's equation, exact differential equations, integrating factor, Orthogonal trajectories, Homogeneous differential equations-separable solutions, Linear differential equations of second and higher order with constant coefficients, method of variation of parameters. Cauchy-Euler equation."
Test, 3 minutes: (1) Name the type of dy/dx + y = xy³. (2) Solve (2xy + 1)dx + (x² + 4y)dy = 0. Answers: (1) Bernoulli, with n = 3. (2) The equation is exact, and the solution is x²y + x + 2y² = C.
Can you pass the Vector Calculus unit?
NTA's wording: "Scalar and vector fields, gradient, divergence, curl and Laplacian. Scalar line integrals and vector line integrals, scalar surface integrals and vector surface integrals, Green's, Stokes and Gauss theorems and their applications."
Test, 4 minutes: (1) Using Gauss's theorem, find the surface integral of F = (x, y, z) over the unit sphere. (2) Find the curl of F = (y, −x, 0). Answers: (1) 4π, since the divergence is 3 and the volume is 4π/3. (2) (0, 0, −2).
Can you pass the Linear Programming unit?
NTA's wording: "Convex sets, extreme points, convex hull, hyper plane & polyhedral Sets, convex function and concave functions, Concept of basis, basic feasible solutions, Formulation of Linear Programing Problem (LPP), Graphical Method of LPP, Simplex Method."
Test, 8 minutes: (1) Maximise Z = 3x + 2y subject to x + y ≤ 4, x ≤ 3, x, y ≥ 0, by the graphical method, then confirm it with the simplex method. (2) Is {(x, y): x² + y² ≥ 1} convex? Answers: (1) The maximum is 11 at (3, 1), and the simplex method reaches it in two iterations. (2) No.
In the official PDF, by our count of paragraphs, Real Analysis has three and Algebra two, while the other five units have one each. We would give those two units the most weeks, then let the ratings decide the rest.
Why do candidates prepare from the wrong CUET PG syllabus?
Preparing from a shortened list or from the wrong code are the two avoidable errors. A list that stops at the seven unit headings drops items NTA names, such as Cauchy's integral formula, Liouville's theorem, Green's, Stokes and Gauss theorems, Lagrange multipliers and the simplex method. Check any list you are given against the NTA PDF line by line. These three habits are the ones we would guard against:
- Trusting a published weightage. NTA sets the 75 questions over the whole SCQP19 syllabus and gives no unit-wise split, so any split is an estimate. Plan for all seven units rather than a favoured few.
- Reading the wording too literally. The real analysis text names compact sets, connected sets and completeness of R. These ideas are defined most cleanly in the language of metric spaces. As insurance, we would also revise the basic definitions there, plus countable and uncountable sets. This is our recommendation, because a 75-question paper can reach the edges of a topic.
- Copying a pattern from an old year. Read duration and marking in the bulletin of the cycle you are applying in.
How should you spend the time in the mathematics paper?
Divide the paper's time evenly and you get 72 seconds per question: 90 minutes is 5,400 seconds, and 5,400 ÷ 75 questions = 72. Spend less on questions you can settle quickly and bank the time for the long ones.
The marking scheme in section 2.5 of the bulletin gives three rules to plan with:
- Unanswered questions score nothing, and so do questions only marked for review. Return to them before time ends.
- A guess pays on average only when your chance of being right is above 20%. This is our calculation from the +4 and −1 marking: a guess with probability p of being right is worth 4p − (1 − p) marks, which is positive only when p is above 0.2. Guess when you have removed enough options to beat that, and skip when you have not.
- If the examiners find a question wrong or drop it, every candidate who appeared receives 4 marks. Do not spend minutes arguing with a faulty question.
We suggest two passes. In the first, answer what you can settle in about a minute. In the second, return to the longer questions, starting with the units you rated 2 or 3.

How do you turn the tracker into a CUET PG mathematics plan?
Work the 0 and 1 units first, one at a time, and rerun each unit's test before you move on. Then sit a past paper under exam conditions, and only after that move to full mocks. We run live classes, recorded lectures, daily problem sheets, doubt support, and mock tests with analytics. Our free content includes demo classes and PDFs, so you can judge our teaching before you enrol.
Use a past paper as a diagnostic.
